The Watershed Community

The future quality of the river depends on the commitment of all stakeholders — residents, farmers, visitors, businesses, government, and others. We must all do our part to minimize the impact of our activities and to protect and restore the Little River and its watershed. The involvement and support of all watershed stakeholders is necessary so future generations can enjoy the river as we do today

"Every square millimeter of earth is a watershed, and the river is the most comprehensive expression of a landscape"

- Te Leeson, The Habit of Rivers

If You Live, Work, or Play in the Little River Watershed You Are Part of the Little River Watershed Community

The Little River Watershed is more than just land and water; it is the place where we live, work, and play. The watershed provides the natural resources that sustain and enrich our daily lives. Our watershed community provides habitat for plants and animals, areas of natural beauty, places for recreation and relaxation, and important natural resources such as water for drinking. The activities that occur on your land impact the larger watershed. Things you do in your watershed community affect people and the environment downstream. The way we live each day influences water quality. When we wash our cars, launder our clothes, fertilize our gardens, plow our fields, manufacture our products, develop our land, or drive to work we generate pollution that impacts our water resources.

There are 1,625 miles of streams in the Little River Watershed.

Consider the impact of your daily activities, then multiply the similar actions of the thousands of other people who live in the watershed. The effects can add up.
